Anticipating Exciting Adventures in South Africa

20120116-150636.jpgIt’s a little over a week until we board Air Canada to overnight at the Frankfurt Sheraton on our way to Johannesburg and 3 weeks touring in South Africa. Thanks to Adrian and Susan Doull whom we reconnected with in Provence this past fall and who know South Africa very well, we are well prepared for a fantastic trip with lots of different facets to it.
The picture represents one of the areas where we will be staying for a few days. The Makakatana Bay Lodge is on the banks of Lake St Lucia in a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Challenges at this point are finishing up various projects that are in progress, getting the right things into carry on bags and backpacks and learning to blog and upload pictures on the iPad.
We have re-read Cry the Beloved Country by Alan Paton – as good today as ever – some of Shaka’s Children (a history of the Zulu people that is very detailed and tough going) and we are progressing through Mandela’s interesting autobiography Long Walk to Freedom, chronicling the struggles of the ANC and his imprisonment. His leadership journey is particularly interesting and informative and attests to the fact that personal leadership development is a life-long adventure. We are getting very excited. So many people have told us that South Africa is the most beautiful country in the world – and we certainly know that its history, culture and current challenges and among the most interesting and potentially informative.

Those left behind are very jealous of your adventure! Have a safe and memorable trip and we look forward to hearing more as you travel. Do they celebrate “Robbie Burns Day” in South Africa?
